Where to Get Help

It is important to get the help for your child that you feel they need after the sexual abuse. There are three areas where you may feel assistance would be warranted - medical, legal and emotional.

Child Welfare
There is a legal obligation to report all suspected child abuse to Child Welfare. However, beyond this obligation Child Welfare can be very helpful to you if you suspect (or know) that your child has been sexually abused. As an agency, Child welfare is very experienced at investigating suspected child abuse. As well, they work closely with the police in this area and this only enhances their services. A call to Child Welfare does not mean that your children will automatically apprehended, unless they are still in danger of being abused. As long as you are ensuring your child's safety from the offender Child Welfare is a resource that is there to help you. Not only will they be involved in the investigation, but also possibly the apprehension and prosecution of the offender, but they will also help you to locate counselling resources for yourself and your child.
